• What curriculum does Sherborne School Jeddah follow?
  
  We follow the English National Curriculum, enriched with specialist teaching in Arabic, Islamic Studies, and innovative programmes aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. Our curriculum spans from Early Years Foundation Stage (FS1 & FS2) through Key Stages 1, 2, and 3 (Years 1-9).
   
• What is your educational philosophy?
  
  Our philosophy centres on "known, valued, and inspired" – ensuring every child receives individualised attention within a nurturing community. We emphasise developing "unique blends" where pupils excel in complementary areas, such as excelling in both mathematics and music, or science and drama. We balance 500 years of Sherborne heritage with modern, forward-thinking education.
   
• What are your class sizes?
  
  We maintain small class sizes to ensure personalised attention and support for every pupil. This allows our teachers to know each child individually and tailor learning to their needs.
   
• Are your teachers qualified?
  
  Yes. All our teachers are experienced British-qualified educators, many with additional specialist qualifications and extensive international teaching experience. Our leadership team holds advanced degrees including MBAs in Education and Leadership.
   
• What languages are taught?
  
  All pupils study Arabic as part of the Saudi curriculum requirements. We also offer Islamic Studies and Qur'an for Muslim students. English is the primary language of instruction for all other subjects.

• What time does school start and finish?
  
  School runs from 8:15am to 3:30pm. Children should arrive between 8:00–8:15am. Attendance is taken promptly at 8:15am.
   
• Is early drop-off available?
  
  Yes. We offer early drop-off from 7:30am for busy families. Pupils will be supervised in a classroom until 8:00am, when they'll be taken to their regular class.
   
• Can I pick up my Foundation Stage child early?
  
  Yes. FS families may choose an early pick-up at 2:30pm. If you prefer, or if your child has older siblings, you're welcome to collect them at the regular 3:30pm dismissal time. FS pupils staying until 3:30pm will be supervised by their classroom teachers.
   
• Where do I drop off and pick up my child?
  
  For Term 1:
  - Gate 3: Years 1–7
  - Gate 2: FS1 & FS2
  All classrooms are on the ground floor and easily accessible from both gates. You can pick up your child directly from their classroom.
   
• How long are lessons?
  
  Each lesson is 45 minutes.
   
• What breaks does my child have during the day?
  
  Children have three breaks:
  - Mid-morning: 30 minutes
  - Lunch: 45 minutes
  - Afternoon: 30 minutes

• What subjects does my child study?
  
  Early Years (FS1 & FS2): Child-led, play-based learning covering all areas of the EYFS curriculum, plus specialist lessons in Arabic, Creative Arts, Music, Drama, and Physical Education
  
  Key Stage 1 (Years 1-2): Core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Arabic Foundation subjects: History, Geography, Art, Drama, Physical Education, Music, Computer Science, Creative Technologies
  
  Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6): All KS1 subjects continue with increasing depth and independence, plus innovation woven throughout the curriculum.
  
  Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9): English, Mathematics, Science (separate sciences), Arabic, History, Geography, Art, Languages, Computing, Music, Drama, and PE, with opportunities for greater subject specialisation.
   
• How do you assess my child's progress?
  
  Teachers assess understanding daily through classwork, questions, and activities. You will receive:
  
  - Term 1 Report: Current attainment, attitude, attendance, and approach to learning
  - Term 2 Report: Updated progress against UK National Curriculum age-related expectations
  - Two formal parent meetings per year
  - Student-Led Conferences in March where children present their learning journey
  
  You can also request meetings with teachers at any time.
   
• How do you support children with different learning needs?
  
  Our Head of Inclusion and experienced SENCO provide tailored support for pupils with additional needs. We believe in genuine inclusion where every child feels they belong and can achieve their full potential. We work closely with families to ensure appropriate support is in place.
   
• Do you offer support for gifted and talented pupils?
  
  Yes. Our curriculum includes challenge programmes such as:
  
  - Challenge ME (mathematics)
  - Science Society
  - NextGen Innovators (entrepreneurship)
  - Various academic enrichment clubs

• What is your approach to homework?
  
  Reading is encouraged daily at home. Additional homework is introduced gradually and age-appropriately, designed to consolidate classroom learning and develop independent study skills. Specific homework expectations are communicated by class teachers.

• Why is daily attendance so important?
  
  Every school day is a building block in your child's learning journey. When children attend regularly, they:
  
  - Stay on track academically – lessons build on each other
  - Strengthen friendships and feel connected to their peers
  - Build routines, responsibility, and resilience
   
• What if my child needs to be absent?
  
  We understand that occasional absences due to illness or family emergencies are unavoidable. Please notify the school by 8:30am so we can support your child's return and help them catch up smoothly.
   
• What happens if my child is frequently late or absent?
  
  Unexplained absences or repeated lateness disrupt your child's progress and the learning of others. If patterns of absence or lateness emerge, the school will contact you directly to discuss concerns. If there is no improvement, formal steps will be taken in line with school policy, which may include written warnings and referral to relevant education authorities in Jeddah.
   
• How does good attendance help my child succeed?
  
  Consistent attendance helps children feel confident, connected, and part of the school community. It fosters responsibility, independence, and a sense of belonging – all essential life skills beyond academics.

• Does the school provide meals?
  
  No. Families provide a nutritious packed lunch, snack, and drinks for their child each day.
   
• What should I pack for my child?
  
  Please provide:
  
  - Named, refillable water bottle – your child should be able to identify it easily
  - Snack box – fresh fruit, vegetables, small sandwich or wrap
  - Packed lunch – wholesome foods that sustain energy and concentration throughout the day
   
• Can I send food in glass containers?
  
  No. Please do not send food or drinks in glass containers or bottles.
   
• Is the school nut-free?
  
  Yes. We are a nut-free school. Please do not send any items containing nuts to safeguard pupils with allergies.
   
• Why does healthy eating matter at school?
  
  A healthy diet and plenty of fluids help children learn more effectively and feel happier throughout the school day. Good nutrition supports concentration, energy, and wellbeing.
   
• What happens if my child's lunch box doesn't meet expectations?
  
  Teachers monitor lunch boxes to maintain high standards. If contents don't meet expectations, the school will contact you directly.

• How do I register my child for co-curricular activities?
  
  Complete the online Options Form accessible via the link in the co-curricular brochure. Simply select your preferred activities based on your child's year group and submit your choices.
   
• Can my child participate in multiple activities?
  
  Yes, activities run on different days (Sunday through Thursday), allowing children to participate in several programmes throughout the week. Please check the schedule to avoid any time conflicts.
   
• What if my child wants to change activities mid-term?
  
  Please contact the school directly to discuss any changes. We aim to be flexible where possible whilst ensuring continuity for all pupils.
   
• When do activities take place?
  
  Activities run after school from Sunday to Thursday. Each activity meets once per week on a designated day.
   
• Who will be teaching these activities?
  
  Activities are led by our exceptional British teachers and supported by specialist coaches, all bringing expertise and genuine passion for nurturing young minds.

• How many uniform items should I buy?
  
  We suggest:
  - 3-5 polo shirts/shirts (to allow for washing and rotation)
  - 2-3 pairs of trousers/skirts
  - 1-2 sweaters or cardigans
  - 1 blazer (Year 3+)
  - Complete PE kit
  - 1 backpack/book bag
  - 1 water bottle
   
• Are trainers allowed for daily wear?
  
  No. Black school shoes must be worn for daily school uniform. Trainers are only permitted during PE lessons and should be brought to school in your child's PE kit bag.
   
• Can my child wear jewellery?
  
  For safety reasons:
  - Small stud earrings are permitted
  - Watches are allowed
  - No other jewellery should be worn
  - All jewellery must be removed for PE lessons

• What if my child grows out of their uniform during the year?
  
  You can purchase replacement or additional uniform items at any time through ZAKS using any of the three purchasing options (online, mobile app, or in-store).
   
• What should my child wear on their first day?

  - Grey trousers/skirt

  PE kit should be brought in a separate bag on PE days (your class teacher will inform you of PE days).
